Kivumbini
is a small village in the outskirts of Marigat Township. It is located to the
South East of the town, hardly one kilometre away from the main township.
In
the small village of Kivumbini, the living standards of the residents is too low. The main economic activities of the residents is
mostly brewing of illegal brews and doing casual labour. People from Marigat town
and the neighboring areas go for drinks to kill their boredom.
“There is nobody’s wife or
husband in this area,” said a resident who did not want to be mentioned. The morals
and ethics of the residents have eroded. People indulge in queer and strange
activities in the deep gullies and Mathenge
(Prosopis species) bushes found in the village as evidenced by stashed contraceptive.
The residents said that they feared the spread HIV and
AIDS could be rampant and further said if not curbed soon , will be a
critical problem in and out of the area. They live in denial (HIV testing) for the fear of unknown hence further spreading the scourge.
Some of them claimed the condoms are insufficient because there is only one dispenser which is rarely refilled.
Toilets:
The village has about one hundred households; with an approximate
population of around four hundred people have only four pit latrines.
“The challenge is that the landlords are not willing
to dig the toilets,’’said Nancy and Mama Victor. (Not real names)
"We don’t have a pre -school in the village, our
children cannot go to Rabai primary school as they cannot cross River Perkerra ," said Nancy.
She urged any willing stakeholders to help them build
toilets and school to avert the anticipated calamity.
