Together for peace

By Elijah Ruto

Forty pastors from Baringo County gathered together on 22nd August 2014 at Sun city Hotel Marigat, in search of ways of achieving lasting peace amongst warring communities caused by cattle rustling.

Tugen, pokots and Ilchamus are the main communities living in Baringo; they are pastoralists and mainly depend on cattle rearing, they all live at the lower part of Baringo which is Arid and semi arid.
Many lives have been lost during cattle raids, because the perpetrators have advanced their tactics by arming themselves with guns.
World vision Marigat, sponsored pastors to discuss possible solutions to achieve prevailing peace in the affected region. The meeting was facilitated by Missionary Hezron Wachira from Nakuru who is also the general overseer of RHEMA ministries international, the pastors were taught citing Bible verses on how God hates bloodshed and delights in peace.
“When human blood is shed, it cries to God for revenge,” said Wachira in reference to the book of Genesis 4:9-14, which talks about two brothers namely Cain and Abel whereby Cain killed Abel due to jealousy because his offerings were accepted by God.
“The Lord gave me a burden to pray and preach peace in this beloved nation, I have travelled to forty five counties doing the same, am glad that my mission has started bearing fruits,” said the missionary citing examples like; Mt Elgon, Mpeketoni, Molo and other parts which he played a vital role in peace making.
As a sign of unity amongst the pastors who were from different denominations, they ate together the “Lords table”. They also held hands as they prayed to God for His intervention.
“Peace starts with the church” the pastors sounded in unison.
In attendance was World Vision Manager, John Mutisya,  promised to seek for finances to facilitate peace meetings in the affected areas like Mukutani, Arabal, Sibilo and other places.
